Hello World

An introduction for the new SoulCrafted Slicer's blog

Hi everyone! This is Andreu, the lead developer behind the SoulCrafted Slicer.

We finally have a blog! The Slicer is developed in public, but public doesn’t mean easy to follow. Unless you read through the commits or hang out on our Discord server (which, I’ll admit, also needs a bit of extra love), it’s hard to know what’s going on. This blog is our (long overdue) attempt to fix that.

One of our goals is to use this blog for detailed public announcements, such as new releases, new people joining the team, important decisions… so we can help the community stay informed about what’s going on in the SoulCrafted Slicer project.

Having said that, public announcements are only a part of what we want to share here with you. Our community is still relatively small, and we’d love to have more people involved in the technical work behind the Slicer. That’s why we’ll also take the time to write technical articles talking about how we work on the project, its internals and the engineering decisions we make… So we can make it more approachable to newcomers who wish to collaborate with us.

We hope this will help our community to be better informed about everything related to the SoulCrafted Slicer, but also to increase participation. For that, it matters where we publish things.

Discord is a nice place to chat, but it’s a walled garden: you need an account just to read it, and search engines can’t see what’s inside. Conversations also get buried quickly under new ones, so anything we explain there only reaches whoever happens to be around at the time. Besides, some people are wary of platforms like Discord, or refuse to use them altogether. Nobody should have to sign up anywhere just to know what’s going on with the Slicer.

This blog, on the other hand, is part of the open web. Anyone can read it without an account, search engines can find it, and what we write today will still be here in a few years. That makes it a better home for anything we want everyone to know, and an easier way in for anyone who’d like to get involved.

Thank you for reading me, see you soon!
